Stuart & Alyssa – Lightspace Wedding

25 July 2020 was a …. bit of a huge disappointment due to Covid! Try again…

23 January 2021 was an awesome day!

Oh what a crazy year 2020 was, 2021 was a much better year for a Wedding celebration!

The initial enquiry I received from Stuart started with “We aren’t very traditional…” Haha I love it! Personally I think Weddings are meant to be unique and a representation of who you are as a couple, Weddings are meant to be fun! So that’s exactly what Stuart and Alyssa planned, twice!

While a flash lockdown in January did give us all a scare, Stuart and Alyssa have said all along that even though they were concerned about postponing, they are much more concerned with the health and safety of their family and friends than their actually Wedding. Which I feel says alot about who Stuart and Alyssa are as people, they care about everyone else first! A lot of people had Covid throw a spanner in the works for their dream Weddings but these guys just took it in their stride (at least that’s the side I saw anyway!).

January 23rd turned out to be a beautiful day, perfect weather really. One would usually predict that you could get a wet Wedding in January but there was barely a cloud in the sky. If I recall correctly it actually rained all day on their original July date!

Stuart and Alyssa weren’t too keen on portraits, so we flipped things around. We arrived at Lightspace at 4pm. Guests were set to arrive at 4:30pm. We popped outside to take just 10 – 15 minutes of photos outside the venue, it’s a great spot! Lightspace itself has quite a few different little areas for photos and the surrounding streets are nice and quiet for snapping photos in too.

Hi Guests! The Bride and Groom broke from tradition and greeted their guests as they arrived, it was quite sweet to see everyones reactions when they entered the door and saw them, like a Bridal first-look but for every guest! The bar opened before the ceremony to get party started then at 5pm with drinks in hand, guests made their was to the adjoined ceremony space.

No ring for this Bride! Alyssa already loved the AWESOME ring that Stuart proposed to her with, he custom designed it himself and it was perfect just as it was. Stuart however got two rings! ha! One fancy ring for showing off and a machinery-safe ring that he could wear at work and not risk losing his ring finger! Their ceremony is best described as short and sweet, coming in at 4 minutes and 20 seconds, just the way they wanted it! Watched on by family and friends in person and on zoom, Stuart and Alyssa made sure to wave at the laptop to include guests who couldn’t make it on the day.

I had been warned in advance that should the signing of the register take longer than the 3 minute traditional song allocated that Star Wars Cantina would start playing to fill in any awkwardness, classic, so good!

The Reception took place about a massive 15 metres walk away from the Ceremony, talk about easy, didn’t even need to leave the air-conditioning! And I thank them for this, I don’t love summer… but I do love air-con!

While everybody was having drinks and covid-safe canapés in little personal packages, what initially appeared to be a solid glass wall with just a small door completely opened to fit 2 full size food trucks into the building!!! It was quite the site to see. The staff quickly flipped the ceremony space into a personal eat street style party and the best bit was all the guests could pick their own food! Doesn’t that sounds great? Kraut n’ About the Bavarian inspired street food truck and Parma Street Food serving authentic Italian food. Such good choices, tasty, lots of options for everyone and substantial enough to absorb some of that alcohol, par-tay!

After everyone ate themselves silly (including myself) the band got into full swing and the dancers in attendance started making their way onto the floor. I may have added a little encouragement… what can I say, I enjoy starting a dance floor!

What an awesome Wedding, I had fun. It’s so good to be back in the full swing of photographing Weddings. Thank you Stuart and Alyssa for having me as your photographer xx
